Talking about this vintage 2014, we are quite enthusiastic at this early stage. We have never seen such beautiful Syrahs at Anglès (a true fruit complexity and tanins that are so fine). The overall health status of the grapes was very good, even with the persistant sea wind… I believe the “effeuillage” done at the end of august helped a lot. We decided however to speed up the picking after the rain last week, as we got 120 mm of rain (1/3 of our annual rain falls) and we know the grapes would inflate after 4 – 5 days and could crack allowing Botrytis to develop. So we finished with the Bourboulenc as always, in perfect shape and juices are showing already great freshness and acidity. (photo by Ken Payton) Vianney FABRE Château d’Anglès
